Project: Since the late 1980s, Objectif Tiers Monde has supported the Congregation of the Petits Frères de Ste Thérèse in their work for the disadvantaged population of Café-Lompré. One of the goals of the Petits Frères is “cost-effective education” to improve the livelihoods of the farming population.
Objectif Tiers Monde has financed the setting up of a cassava plant for the production of cassava (cassava cakes), which is available to the population of Café-Lompré to transform their crops into a more conservable product.
Since 1998, at the OTM Artisan Training Center, next to a more masculine formations (ironwork, carpentry or horticulture), to support more the women of Café Lompré it was supported the training for girls, such as training in domestic arts. The girls learn to cook, crochet, knitting, embroidery, sewing, and floral art. After their training they can work as a cleaning lady or open their small sewing workshop.
In 2006 OTM supported the women’s grouping of Café Culture and Coffee Processing in the Café-Lompré region. The aim is to support the women’s group in the cultivation and processing of coffee by monitoring the management of their working capital, but also by providing training or technical support if necessary. The main aim of this framework agreement is to monitor the achievements of the previous projects and framework agreements and to follow the support of the Petits Frères to the people in the fields of artisanal training and agriculture in order to make those families able to diversify and secure their incomes.
